危機一髪の素焼き窯詰 Very Thrilling Stuffing for Bisque Firing

　去年1０月に制作始めた作品は3月に完成しました。

この作品は大きく、私一人では素焼きのための窯詰ができないため、父と姉が手伝ってくれました。左前脚が宙に浮いているので器をのせる自作ハマ（支え）を重ねて敷き、作品が揺れないような体制を整えました。私は緊張しながら電熱線に当たらないように作品を入れ、八角形をしている窯の炉内の対角線の一方に鼻先が、もう一方に左後脚のかかとがギリギリいっぱいになりました。

This month, I have finished the work I started to produce last October.

Because the piece is rather large, it is impossible for me to stuff it in the kiln all by myself, so I've asked my dad's and sister's helps. We needed to slightly lift up the head of the piece, so we put some hand-made spurs below its left front paw, so that it won't wobble. Very nervously and carefully I put my work into the kiln so that it won't scratch any of those heating wires. Inside the kiln is octagon-shaped, so we put my work diagonally, with the nose on one end and the left hind paw on the other end, and it fitted in, just and no more!

　左後脚は棚板からはみ出した状態となっているため、炉内に当たっていないか確認しました。

The left hind paw is hanging out from the board, so I've checked if it's hitting the inner wall.

大学時代の頃も作品を入れるのにヒヤヒヤしたことを思い出しました。

 Reminds me of the days at the college when I was so nervous every time I need to put my works in the kiln.

あらかじめ作ったミニチュア模型を見ながら作品を作り、形が思い通りにいくことを考えながら炉内のサイズに合わせるようにも工夫しました。 

I made the piece by modeling on the miniature I made in advance, trying to make the shape I want and at the same time, being careful to make sure that it will fit in the kiln.

3月の本焼焼成 Glost Firing in March

春になり暖かい日寒い日が重なっています。アメ釉薬の原料が少なくなったので大きめのバケツに入れてもスムーズに色がはっきりしません。
マグカップの釉掛けをしやすいサイズの容器を使いました。

Spring has come and we are having warm and cold days. For I have fewer stock of materials to make ameyuyaku (glaze with lower iron) now, I couldn't produce the colour I wanted to make that smoothly, even though I used a larger bucket. To glaze my mugs, I used a larger container.

今回は素地のマグカップの取手にミニオブジェを直接にはくっつけないことにしました。
なぜなら、マグカップに釉掛けをする際にミニオブジェの部分には釉薬をかけたくないのですが、取手に最初からくっつけているとどうしても釉薬がかかってしまうからです。そこで今回はマグカップとミニオブジェを作る日にちを分けて、それから作品を両方乾燥した上で、取手の部分にミニオブジェを置く形にしました。

This time, I didn't attach my tiny dogs on the mugs' handles from the outset. For, I only want to glaze the cup and handle parts but if those tiny dogs were already attached to the handles, it's very easy to mistakenly put some glaze on those dogs.. and I don't want to do that. So, this time, I separately produced the mugs and tinny dogs, dry them respectively, glaze the mugs alone and attached those small dogs on their handles in the end.

朝の窯出しはゆっくりし作品を出しました。良い色になりました！

This morning, I slowly took my fired products out from the kiln. I really liked the colours!

 　その中に注文を受けて作った作品もあります。

Some works among these were produced to orders.

ミニオブジェたちは色粘土でうまくグラデーションを組み合わせて作りました。

I made those tiny dogs with several different combinations of coloured clay.

フェーブも無事良い色になりました！

The colours of king cake trinkets (fève for galette des rois) came out nicely as well!

 

 

このハンカチーフをくわえた仔犬は京都で
出展できるように予定を立てています。

I am planning to exhibit this puppy with a handkerchief in Kyoto.

京都のギャラリーで個展に見にきていていただき知り合ったお客さんに愛犬

の写真を見せてもらい、このピアスを作って欲しいと頼まれたので作りました。

A visitor to my exhibition in Kyoto asked me to make earrings with her dog's face painted on. So I made this by modeling on the photo of her dog she showed me.
