暑い夏の創作と第14回真夏のアートフェスティバル Working in the Hot Summertime and the 14th Annual Midsummer Art Festival

 
4月に始まった第５回京都府立堂本印象美術館野外彫刻展が無事に終わりました。6月13日（月）に作品を持って帰るため京都へ行きました。
私は一度も作品を鑑賞できませんでした。兵庫県の親戚と母の友達たちが見に行って写真を撮ってくれて感謝しています。来年は私も鑑賞したいと思います！

The 5th Annual Open-Air Sculptural Exhibition at Kyoto Prefectural INSHO-DOMOTO Museum, which has started in April, is soundly finished, so on 13th June (Mon.) I went to Kyoto to bring my artwork back.
Unfortunately, I had no chance to visit and see the exhibition myself, but I’m so grateful that my relatives in Hyogo and mother’s friends went to see and photographed my art piece. Hopefully, I can enjoy the exhibition next year!

 

 

先月には、冬から夏にかけて作りためた地べた異形犬、マグカップ、キャンディーポット、イースターエッグ、子猫と犬の小さな作品を素焼きするために窯詰をしました。

To bisque fire the pieces I have been accumulating since last winter, which include the rising up Heteromorphic dog, mugs, candy-pots, Easter eggs, and small kitties and dogs, I put them into the kiln last month.

5月の京都と東京の彫刻展 Sculpture Exhibitions in Kyoto & Tokyo in May

 さて、今日は京都と東京の彫刻展の出展開催中に出かけた出来事について書きます。
So, today I am going to write about my recent visits to Kyoto & Tokyo to see the sculpture exhibitions I’m joining.

第46回京都彫刻家協会展の最終日8日（日）には、作品の搬出のため、家族３人で岡山から京都まで出発しました。夕方5時の搬出時間前には、去年はパンデミックのために出展できなかった実物作品たちをゆっくり鑑賞できました。また京都の彫刻家の友だちと会ってたくさん会話をしました。6日間のゴールデンウィークの間に賑やかな展示会を迎えることができました。

On the 8th of May (Sun), which was the last day of the 46th Annual Exhibition of the Kyoto Sculptors, me, my dad and mum went to Kyoto from Okayama to take out my art pieces. Before 5pm when we started packing, we had plenty of time to enjoy all those artworks, which were supposed to be exhibited last year, if it were not for the pandemic. Also, I had lots of catch ups with my artist friends in Kyoto. We had a nice and lively exhibition during the 6 days Golden Week.
 

 

 

 

東京都美術館で開催された第68回創型展では、24日(火）と25日(水）に在廊しました。コロナが続いている中、気をつけて母と一緒に東京へ出発し母の台湾の教会の友だちと幼なじみ方の家に3泊4日滞在しました。平塚市の花水小学校のクラスメートと、東京へ引っ越ししてしまった近所の友だちの方も見に来てくれました。異形犬作品のコンセプトの説明をしたり、平塚市に住んでいた時の懐かしいお話もできました。

On 24th (Tue) and 25th (Wed), I visited and stayed at the venue of the 68th Annual Exhibition of Soukei-ten, situated in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Cautiously travelled to Tokyo with mum amid the ongoing pandemic, and stayed at mum’s church friends’ and childhood friend’s for three nights. My previous classmate from the Hanamizu Primary School in Hiratsuka City, and two friends who moved to Tokyo long ago came to see my artworks. I explained the concept of Heteromorphic dogs and chatted about our childhood memories of the life in Hiratsuka City.

泊めてくれた母の友だちは、去年岡山市のGallery108での個展に出展した異形犬を買ってくれました。今回訪ねた時に、玄関に美しく飾ってくれているのを見ました。
Mum’s childhood friend who let us stayed has purchased one of my Heteromorphic dogs I exhibited during my solo exhibition at Gallery 108 in Okayama City last year. When we visited her house this time, I saw the art piece nicely arranged in the foyer.

5月の京都と東京での展示活動 Exhibitions in Kyoto and Tokyo during May

 去年の5月には京都で第45回京都彫刻家協会展に、東京で第68回創型展に参加する予定でしたが、いずれもコロナウイルス感染拡大と緊急事態宣言で中止になりました。今年はどちらも再開できることになりました。

Last May I was about to join the 46th Annual Exhibition of the Kyoto Sculptors Association in Kyoto, and the 68th Annual Soukeikai Sculpture Exhibition in Tokyo. However, due to the pandemic and the Declaration of the State of Emergency, both were cancelled. This year, they are going ahead.

第5回京都府立堂本印象美術館野外彫刻展への作品搬入 Installing Artwork for the 5th Annual Open-Air Sculptural Exhibition at Kyoto Prefectural INSHO-DOMOTO Museum of Fine Arts

 第5回京都府立堂本印象美術館野外彫刻展に参加することになり4月4日(月）の朝早くに父と一緒に作品を運んで岡山から京都まで出発しました。この展示に参加するのは二回目です。

I am joining the 5th Annual Open-Air Sculptural Exhibition at Kyoto Prefectural INSHO-DOMOTO Museum of Fine Arts. So in the early morning of 4th April (Mon), I brought my artwork from Okayama to Kyoto with my dad.

セッティングは美術館の庭で行い、作品を直接地面に置きました。地面は斜めなので、なんとか作品がバランス良く立つように土を掘って平らにしました。設置作業中に別の出展者の方に草刈りの鍬を貸していただき、喜んで使用しました。作品の底とピッタリ合わせて、仕上げに隙間の部分にも土を詰めました。

I set my art piece in the garden of the Museum by putting it directly on the ground. The ground isn’t really even, so I did some digging to make it nice and level so that my artwork can securely stand. While I was doing this, another participant lended me his hand hoe, so I used it gratefully. I made sure that the ground and the bottom face of my artwork are contacting as closely as possible, and to finish up, I also put some soil into any remaining gaps.

展示は始まったばかりです。ちょうど暖かい春を迎えていますが、京都にお住まいの方々や遊びに来ていただく方々も是非見てもらえると嬉しいです。お庭と作品の組み合わせは面白いです！

The exhibition has just started, and the warm springtime is here. It would be great if anyone living or visiting Kyoto  would come and have a look at our art pieces. I’m sure the combination of the garden and the art pieces must be pretty interesting to see!

また美術館本館でも興味深い作品展が開催されています。
Also the Museum itself is currently holding another interesting exhibition as well.

 

チャリティー展準備と開催 “New Cultural Standards Okayama” - A Charity Exhibition

 2月の本焼き焼成が終わった後、立ち姿の異形犬と腰に体重を置く異形犬コンビ、地べた異形犬を両方制作しています。

After finishing the glost firing of February, I’ve been making three Heteromorphic dogs: A standing one and another one putting their paws on the former, as well as the one coming to their feet.

 立ち姿の異形犬はお腹と４本の脚と腰までできました。しかし、この立ち姿の異形犬の腰までの高さが38センチになってしまい、もしももう一点の異形犬を合わせるとなんと窯の高さを越してしまうことがわかりました！このため、もう一度、お腹の支えを20センチまで縮め、４本脚の高さを変更しました。とりあえずそれは試行錯誤としておいておき、先にこの異形犬二匹組の模型と、地べた異形犬から作ることにしました。

I made belly, four legs, and lower back of the standing one. But then I noticed that its height up till its lower back is already 38cm and if I add another Heteromorphic dog (which is going to put their paws on the first one’s back), the entire piece’s hight is going to be higher than what my kiln can contain! So I had to redo, and this time I made the belly stilt 20cm high, and stopped after finishing 4 legs. Then I move on to make a model of this duo, and the rising up dog first.

現在は「New Cultural Standards Okayama チャリティー展」というグループ展に参加しています。会場は、去年7月に個展を開催したGallery108です。

I am now participating in a group exhibition titled “New Cultural Standards Okayama Charity Exhibition”. The venue is Gallery108, the one where I did my solo exhibition July last year.

4日(金）にはGallery108に行き、展示セッティングの作業を行い、恩師（ギャラリーのオーナー）からアドバイスをいただきながら異形犬キャンディーポットと犬マグカップ、犬フェーブをバラバラの配置で並べたました。作品の下にサンプルの箱たちも置きました。

On March 4th (Friday), I visited the gallery to do some setting up, and my teacher (who is also the owner of the gallery) gave me some advices on how to arrange my Heteromorphic dog-themed small pieces - such as candy-pots, mugs, king cake trinkets. I also put some packing-boxes below my pieces as samples.

                            

                              

                                         

このイベントは岡山市の文化の振興を目指し、新しく公立の美術施設を設置することを提案している「NCS.OKAYAMA」の活動を支援するために開かれています（現在岡山市の公立美術施設は岡山県立美術館一つのみです）。このため、提案に賛同するアーティストたちの絵画、洋画、彫刻、書、ガラス、木工などの作品を展示販売しています。地元でアート活動ができる場の良さを周りの人たちに伝えたいと思います。

This event aims to support the campaign of “NCS. OKAYAMA”, for a promotion of culture in Okayama city through the establishment of a new public art facility (at the moment we have only one which is Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art). Therefore, various types of paintings, sculptures, calligraphies, glass arts, woodworking pieces created by the artists who support the idea of NCS. OKAYAMA are exhibited and sold. I also hope that many people see the benefit of having a local place where everyone can interact through arts.
